The Phone Call

A little background: Kara has been our neighbor for eight years, she was here first so maybe it is the other way around.  Anyhow…  Madeline has always admired Kara.   Johnny and I would tease Madeline because she would request “kera c’m here” almost daily.  I am never really sure what Madeline had to say that was relevant but Kara always came over and talked with Maddie.   Kara is now eighteen.   Maddie has been to Young Women’s Girls Camp twice and always has great stories of Kara when she returns home.  Besides camp and the occasional rides to Young Women’s they really do not associate (the daily visits stopped a few years ago).  Today however Kara called and invited Maddie to go to the Brigham City Pool.  She was elated, she could not quit smiling for at least 20 minutes.  I am sure that we all remember a time when the need to fit in was life or death and the one phone call from the “cool person” made you feel like you were just as cool. Well today was that day for Maddie .  I even let her go without her violin practiced, her laundry washed and folded, and the lawn mowed.  Sometimes fitting in and hanging out are more important than chores.
